It has come to light that there is a possible email scam targeting dental practices, so all dental professionals should be on the look out. The sender claims to be a computer forensics company who has the right to remotely access patient records on behalf of the GDC.
However, the GDC has confirmed that these emails are not legitimate and anyone who receives such communications should refuse the request and then check with the Council directly.
If you have already acted on an email of this nature, unauthorised people may be able to access confidential patient information leaving your practice in a serious breach of the Data Protection Act. If you believe this has happened to you, you should contact the police.
You can contact the GDC directly on 0207 167 6000 if you have any questions regarding this.
